WASHINGTON: In an attempt to establish his mark on his new government on issues ranging from immigration to energy, US President Donald Trump announced Monday, January 20, that he would issue what is anticipated to be a flurry of executive orders and directives.
More than 200 such directions and orders might be issued in what is internally referred to as a “shock-and-awe” operation, according to two people familiar with the planning.
Shortly after taking the oath of office for a second term, Trump announced in an inaugural address that he would re-establish his “remain in Mexico” policy, send troops to the US-Mexico border, and declare illegal immigration a national emergency.
In addition, he declared that as part of a broad immigration crackdown that is anticipated to involve deportations, he would work to prevent all illegal incursions and hold all migrants found to be crossing the border illegally.
According to a new Trump administration official, Trump will release a broad proclamation that seeks to deny entry to all asylum claimants at the border with Mexico. According to the official, he will also issue an order that will terminate birthright citizenship for children born in the United States whose parents do not have legal immigration status.
