SINGAPORE: As a powerful typhoon moves towards Japan on Wednesday, August 28, several Singapore Airlines (SIA) flights between Osaka and Singapore have been cancelled.
According to a statement released by SIA on its website, four flights to and from Kansai International Airport in Osaka were cancelled due to weather conditions brought on by Typhoon Shanshan.
The Japan Meteorological Agency issued an alert on residents to “evacuate from dangerous places” due to heavy rains, the possibility of landslides in the central Shizuoka area, and high waves in the Amami region.
Later this week, the typhoon will turn towards Kyushu, the main southern island. On Tuesday, it reached gusts of up to 216 km/h. Japan Airlines cancelled six international and 116 domestic flights on Tuesday and Wednesday. All Nippon Airways cancelled 68 domestic flights from Wednesday to Friday due to typhoon Shanshan, which brought heavy rains to Japan on Tuesday as it moved towards the southern Amami archipelago.
