SINGAPORE: According to the Land Transport Authority (LTA), construction is 40% finished on the section of the East-West Line (EWL) where train service was halted on Saturday, December 7. Trains are expected to return by Wednesday.
LTA Group Director of train (Electrical and Mechanical) Chia Choon Poh stated, “About 100 LTA and SMRT engineers and contractors have been working since 1am yesterday morning to replace the existing rail tracks with the new turnout tracks.
We have eliminated the current tracks thus far. The current trackside equipment has been removed. Additionally, we installed new turnout tracks and ballast. During a media site visit on Sunday, Mr. Chia stated, “As of this morning, we have finished all the welding for the rail joints.”
At a distance from the ECID, the reporters were shown ongoing construction at the Tanah Merah viaduct. Workers are still installing the third rail, signaling devices, and power supply cables as part of the track-side equipment installation process. They have taken their meals. They have also hydrated well and (had) adequate rest before returning to work.
