Tan Cher Ming dreamed of becoming a car designer from a young age. “I’ve always been drawn to design. As a child, I loved sketching cartoons and comic figures, and by my teenage years, I was fascinated with designing vehicles, especially cars,” Tan shared. While he didn’t pursue car design, he found his calling in architecture, creating stunning spaces and buildings as the founder of Singapore-based Ming Architects.
Specializing in landed houses, Tan has designed numerous beautiful homes across Singapore. Each project is unique, tailored to its plot and the client’s vision, yet they all share common themes. “My architecture focuses on crafting spacious, light-filled environments with natural ventilation, framed views of nature, and the subtle use of tactile, natural materials,” he explained.
Tan’s designs have a contemporary aesthetic, characterized by clean lines and minimalist forms inspired by Modernist architecture but adapted to tropical climates. His homes often feature double-volume ceilings, courtyards, atriums, skylights, and strategically placed openings, creating porous structures that invite abundant daylight and a strong connection to nature.
This approach enhances the visual appeal of his designs and ensures functionality and comfort. By blending modern principles with tropical sensibilities, Tan has established himself as a leading architect, transforming unique plots into bespoke homes that harmonize with their surroundings. His work reflects a deep understanding of space, light, and nature, making each project a testament to his creative vision and architectural expertise.
