Singapore: Prime Minister Lawrence Wong stated on Thursday (Nov. 28) that Singapore and Thailand may collaborate on food security and carbon credits by leveraging their near proximity.
During a joint press conference with his Thai counterpart Paetongtarn Shinawatra in Bangkok, Mr. Wong emphasized the green economy as one area where the two nations can increase their cooperation.
Mr. Wong stated that the two parties can “work towards an implementation agreement on carbon credits collaboration, which will open up new opportunities for our companies.” He also noted that Thailand is increasing its production of green power using sources like hydrogen and biofuels.
He said that he had already spoken with Ms. Paetongtarn on food security during their meeting last month in Laos, which was held on the fringes of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit.
In her remarks, Ms Paetongtarn said that Thailand is keen to strengthen Singapore’s food security, by increasing premium rice and organic egg exports to Singapore.
