BANGKOK: In the first of her 14 murder trials, a Thai lady who is thought to be one of the deadliest serial killers in the history of the country was found guilty and given the death penalty on Wednesday, November 20, for using cyanide to poison a friend. The 36-year-old internet gambling addict Sararat Rangsiwuthaporn is charged with defrauding her victims out of thousands of dollars before using poison to kill them.
On Wednesday, a Bangkok court found her guilty of poisoning her friend Siriporn Kanwong to death. In April of last year, the two got together close to Bangkok to perform a Buddhist ritual that involved releasing fish into the Mae Klong river.
Investigators discovered evidence of cyanide in Siriporn’s body when she fainted and her away shortly after. Then, according to the police, they were able to connect Sararat to cyanide poisoning cases that had not yet been resolved, dating back to 2015.
Sararat allegedly borrowed up to 300,000 baht (about US$9,000) from her victims to finance her gambling addiction before murdering them and taking their jewelry and cell phones, according to the police.
