SINGAPORE: In response to shifting industry demands, several universities in Singapore are adding more specialised courses to their digital and information technology curricula.
By equipping undergrads with industry certifications to supplement their general tech degrees, they hope to increase their employability.
Experts in human resources told CNA that, considering the likelihood of continued difficulties in the tech sector, specialisation in this area will be essential to improving one’s employability.
The company devised an ethical hacking boot camp to help with the issue by upskilling employees and finding new ones.
Vice President of Human Resources Serene Yeo of the company stated, “We don’t just expect our fresh graduates or fresh hires to be able to have all of these skill sets, and I say this in the context of rapid technological changes.” We need both our recent graduates and new hires to change with technology for skill sets to be learned and acquired.
Since AI would allow us to more quickly get to the core of the issue for the client, the skill sets that go along with that would typically be in that area. Since 2021, the percentage of recent IT and digital tech graduates obtaining full-time, permanent jobs has decreased by five percentage points.
