SINGAPORE: Senior Minister of State for Transport Amy Khor stated on Tuesday (March 5) that an additional S$1 billion (US$744.6 million) will be allocated over the next decade to make walking and cycling commutes safer in more Singapore communities.
The Land Transport Authority will expand the Friendly Streets project from five experimental locations to all HDB towns by 2030. The idea will also be expanded to private estates with high-activity zones and critical services nearby.
The S$1 billion would also be used to strengthen commuter infrastructure for first- and last-mile connectivity over the next decade, Dr Khor said in parliament as she revealed her ministry’s budget objectives.
In addition, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) will support two new road repurposing projects to prioritize bicycle and pedestrian traffic.
