Singapore and Vietnam have signed a Memorandum of Understanding after two decades to strengthen their commercial relationship. Chief Executive Officers of both countries signed the MOU on February 10 at the Vietnam- Singapore Business Forum 2023, held in Hanoi.
Expansion of Bilateral Cooperation
After the lightening of the border restrictions last year, Singapore and Vietnam Airlines found opportunities to expand the Bilateral partnership to enhance the service quality for their passengers traveling between Singapore and Vietnam.
One opportunity is to reintroduce and boost the flight frequencies between the two countries, with Vietnam providing daily flights from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to Singapore. On this basis, Singapore Airlines returns the favor by giving numerous flight services from Singapore to Da Nang, Hanoi, and Ho Chi Minh City.
As both countries operate more than 62 flights weekly is opportunistic, with the airlines seeking better ways to expand their partnership. Hence, under the newly signed MOU, both airlines will plan to navigate the possibility of codeshare agreements simplifying improved connectivity between Vietnam and Singapore.
Goh Choon Phong, Chief Executive Officer at Singapore Airlines, highlighted that “Singapore and Vietnam Airlines have established networks which can support each other to strengthen the connectivity between the two ASEAN countries and key markets globally. These win-win arrangements will present greater value and options for our customers, boost economic growth, and support initiatives that facilitate tourism activities.”
Adding value for their passengers
Apart from implementing a codeshare agreement, the MOU will also follow Singapore and Vietnam Airlines exploring different areas of commercial cooperation, which will help offer more value and options to the passengers.
Chief Executive Officer of Vietnam Airlines, Le Hong Ha, highlighted to strengthen the relationship with Singapore Airlines and said,
Singapore has remained the most important market for Vietnam Airlines. We hope to take advantage of our joint capabilities throughout many commercial fields of our business and provide a flawless experience to our valued customers. This MoU will build a strong foundation for future partnership and robust recovery after the pandemic”.

The above report states the partnership between Singapore and Vietnam Airlines. It focuses on the MoU, which will benefit the customers of both countries. It will also see development like planned codeshare agreements. Lower airfares, more flight schedules, flexible loyalty programs, and many more are some benefits to passengers.
