Singapore: The Meteorological Service Singapore announced on Friday, January 10, that last year was the warmest Singapore has ever experienced, tied with 2019 and 2016.
The Met Service’s Singapore Climate 2024: The Year in Numbers report states that temperatures in every month were either the same as or higher than their corresponding long-term averages.
In addition to earlier rains in 2024, Singapore saw warmer temperatures in 2023 as a result of the 2023–2024 El Nino event. April was both the warmest April on record and the warmest month of the previous year.
According to the research, the month’s mean temperature of 29.4 degrees Celsius tied with 2016 as the warmest April on record, 1.2 degrees Celsius higher than the long-term average. At 26.7 degrees Celsius, April 2024’s mean daily minimum temperature tied 2016 for the highest April mean daily minimum temperature.
Additionally, it was the warmest July on record, with a mean temperature of 29.3 degrees Celsius, 1.1 degrees Celsius higher than the month’s long-term average and 0.2 degrees warmer than the previous warmest July in 2015. The Met Service reported that the month’s average daily low temperature of 27.1 degrees Celsius also shattered the previous July record of 26.9 degrees Celsius, set in 2019.
