SINGAPORE: Singapore has the funds and capabilities to host the next Commonwealth Games, but whether it should or does so is determined by what the country and its people stand to gain, according to CNA.
Earlier in March, it was announced that Singapore was “assessing the feasibility” of a Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) invitation to host the 2026 edition of the quadrennial multi-sport competition.
In response to CNA’s inquiries, the Commonwealth Games Singapore (CGS) association and statutory board Sport Singapore (SportSG) stated that during the November 2023 general assembly, CGF invited all member states, including Singapore, to declare interest in hosting the next edition of the Games.
Four months after the Australian state of Victoria withdrew from consideration to host the 2026 Games due to anticipated cost overruns, the assembly met in Singapore.
