SINGAPORE: President Tharman Shanmugaratnam will undertake a state visit to India to mark the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
His five-day visit, which begins on January 14, is at the invitation of Indian President Droupadi Murmu, Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said in a news release on Monday (January 13). Mr Tharman will visit New Delhi on January 15-16 and Odisha on January 17-18.
Mr Tharman will be greeted ceremoniously at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, the presidential residence, in New Delhi, and Ms Murmu will treat him to a formal luncheon there. Mr Tharman will also see Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several other ministers before going to the Raj Ghat to pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi.
During his visit to India’s capital, Mr Tharman will attend a reception to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Singapore-India diplomatic relations and Singapore’s 60th year of independence. Mr Tharman will also present the Honorary Citizen Award to Mr Tarun Das, the former director general of the Confederation of Indian Industry.
