SINGAPORE: Robert Yap, president of the Singapore National Employers Federation (SNEF), has resigned. The SNEF said a “governance procedural lapse” was discovered during a regular internal review.
The council “promptly engaged an external consultant to conduct a thorough review of our internal processes,” according to a media statement released by SNEF on Tuesday, June 11. The federation also stated that there are no known financial repercussions from the lapse and that the independent review is still in progress.
The council takes seriously the federation’s responsibility in upholding governance ideals expected by all our stakeholders and will directly oversee this independent review.”
The statement did not provide an explanation for Dr. Yap’s resignation, which also includes his resignation as a council member. His tenure as SNEF’s leader spanned a decade.
CNA has requested further details regarding the resignation’s circumstances, including the governance lapse’s specifics.
In addition, he chairs the Malaysia-Singapore Business Council and the ASEAN Business Advisory Council from Singapore. He also serves as president of the ASEAN Confederation of Employers.
I appreciate the years of support from the SNEF council, SNEF members, and tripartite stakeholders. I have put a lot of effort into promoting tripartism in Singapore and the interests of my members. Though it is never simple, I have tried my best. Additionally, it’s time to transfer leadership responsibilities,” Dr. Yap stated.
