Singapore: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said on Thursday, November 28, that Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong had written to his Sri Lankan counterpart Harini Amarasuriya to congratulate her on her appointment.
The 54-year-old academic, who holds a doctorate in social anthropology from the University of Edinburgh, will hold the education and higher education portfolios.
Mr. Wong wrote his “warmest congratulations” to Dr. Amarasuriya on Wednesday. You have a strong mandate from the people of Sri Lanka to lead the nation and implement changes.
“I do not doubt that under your direction, Sri Lanka will prosper and become more powerful,” Mr. Wong wrote. He went on to say that both nations have tight and long-standing links that are based on a solid basis of people-to-people and economic collaboration.
According to Mr. Wong, the two nations also work together in a number of fields, such as digitalization, healthcare, and carbon credits.
“I’m excited to collaborate with you to further cement Singapore and Sri Lanka’s friendship as we approach the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2025.
