SINGAPORE: Prime Minister Lawrence Wong met with Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in Lima, Peru, on Friday (November 15).
In a Facebook post, Mr Wong stated that both countries have a “close and multifaceted relationship” that was elevated to an All-Round High-Quality Future-Oriented Partnership last year. Economic relationships are strong. “China is Singapore’s largest trading partner in goods, and Singapore is China’s largest foreign investor,” he said.
“As we mark the 35th anniversary of diplomatic ties next year, I look forward to working with President Xi to strengthen cooperation further and take our relations to greater heights.” Mr Wong will attend the APEC Economic Leaders’ Summit in Peru from November 14 to 16, followed by the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Australia and Singapore have a close and robust partnership, supported by shared values and similar strategic perspectives on the world,” he added in a separate Facebook post.
He stated that he had a productive discussion with Mr Albanese about global and regional developments, as well as plans for the next phase of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
