Eager to learn about the beginning of Olivia Murphy’s professional journey, we asked, “Could you start by telling us about your professional career path?”
Olivia shared, “From my earliest days, I’ve been deeply passionate about communications, media, and marketing. This passion quickly translated into a professional opportunity when I landed a role as an Editor and Brand Manager for a new health and wellbeing brand in London shortly after graduating from university. This role sparked my enduring love for the critical role of marketing and mindset in shaping an entrepreneur’s success.
Over the last decade, my career has evolved significantly. I’ve had the privilege of working with a range of companies, from entrepreneurial startups to industry giants like PepsiCo, Procter & Gamble, and FIVE Hotels & Resorts. I’ve also been involved in growing some of the most respected magazine titles, such as Esquire, Grazia, and Cosmopolitan Middle East.
My journey led me to launch my own consultancy and coaching business, Olivia Murphy Marketing. My mission is to empower, coach, and consult with purpose-driven entrepreneurs, providing them with the marketing tools and strategies they need to achieve their goals and soar to new heights of success.

“Adversity is a common companion in the business world. What have been the major barriers you’ve navigated through, and how have these experiences molded your philosophy on leading a team?”
She replied, “Throughout my 10 years of experience with various startups and large consumer brands, I’ve encountered various leadership styles. I believe in working with people who share my vision, challenge my ideas, and possess skills that surpass my own.
Addressing my imposter syndrome and perfectionism has been a journey of learning to make swift decisions, avoid overthinking, and take regular calculated risks. It’s essential to have a team that’s unafraid to speak out and challenge the norm, bringing diverse skills and cultural perspectives to the table. Providing clear career progression opportunities and training each team member to exceed client expectations is also crucial.
My focus is not solely on acquiring new business, as many marketing consultancies and agencies do, but on consistently delivering outstanding results. This ensures our clients’ satisfaction and trust, encouraging them to return for more.”

We further asked, “You’re a big advocate for mindset when working with entrepreneurs. What advice would you give someone that has a business idea, but is too afraid to start?”
Olivia responds, “Even with all the talent, connections, and financial resources in the world, it’s your mindset that ultimately determines your success. The right mindset is crucial for tapping into your full potential and achieving your dreams. Procrastination only diminishes your chances of starting your business.
Remember, someone with less talent might act on your idea while you’re still hesitating. There’s no reason to wait; just dive in and see what happens. The worst outcome is a valuable learning experience. If you don’t attempt it, you’ll never realize your true capabilities.”

She said, “Our approach to maintaining a competitive edge in a global market is to target clients who are committed, satisfied, and likely to recommend our services. It’s more efficient to keep clients who value our work and provide us with ongoing business and referrals.
We prioritize fostering strong relationships, going beyond the standard requirements, and adding value wherever possible. Keeping up with the latest developments in the marketing industry is essential. We aim to be agile, responsive, and flexible in our strategies, which keeps our work exciting and ensures optimal results for our clients.”
Competitive 1-1 Consultancy
To understand the perspective of Olivia Murphy on effective client insights, we asked, “What role has customer feedback played in shaping the direction of your products or services?”
Olivia shared, “Speaking with smaller startup brands, I observed the difficulties entrepreneurs faced in obtaining proper marketing advice. Their budgets were often too tight for large marketing agencies, and hiring a marketing executive entailed considerable expenses and training. Consequently, they would resort to the ‘Spaghetti Strategy,’ randomly allocating their marketing budget to various tactics in the hope that something would be effective. This approach is both inefficient and wasteful.
To address this issue, I decided to offer a competitive 1-1 consultancy service, available on a project basis or as a monthly retainer for continuous support. I also created downloadable self-paced online marketing courses and programs. These offerings aim to provide entrepreneurs with the right advice, helping them save money and significantly increase their revenue without incurring excessive costs.”

Network with individuals who are driven and challenge you to elevate yourself, be adaptable and quick to respond, stay informed about current trends, and accept ‘failure’ as a part of the growth process.
Too many people quit when things become challenging, but failing is a sign of progress. You possess the ability to design and create a life you’re passionate about.
