We recently had the privilege of interviewing Nawang Dorji, a professional tour guide and Bhutan Tour Operator at OMSHA Travel. Being in the tourism industry for over nine years, Nawang is an expert in guiding personalized and group tours in Bhutan, offering excellent customer service.
With an extensive knowledge of culture, history, arts, and photography, Nawang Dorji is apt at learning, retaining, and recalling extensive amounts of information quickly. Recognizing the importance of minute details in tour services, he started his travel service with a passion for enhancing customer experiences. We started the interview by asking, “Can you please provide us with some information about yourself, including your early life and education?”
Nawang Dorji shared, “Born in the Eastern part of Bhutan, I did most of my schooling in Bhutan. After completing my degree in Journalism from Bangalore India, I came back to Bhutan and got an opportunity to work in the travel industry in Bhutan.
For nearly a decade, I have worked as a tour guide with travel companies in Thimphu, Bhutan, where I not only navigated the awe-inspiring landscapes of Bhutan but also shared my deep knowledge of Buddhism and passion for the region with travelers. Beyond the conventional roles of a tour guide, my proficiency in photography and extensive training in Nature Guide adds an extra dimension to my work.”

My mission for the company is to provide exceptional service and memorable experiences and maintain high standards of quality and professionalism in all aspects of its operations that would lead to positive word-of-mouth referrals from satisfied customers.

Nawang Dorji continued, “In the travel industry, particularly in roles such as tour guiding or tour operating, several qualities contribute to successful leadership. Strong leadership in travel requires a comprehensive understanding of destinations, cultures, languages, and travel logistics. Leaders should continuously educate themselves about various destinations and stay updated on industry trends and best practices.
Travel leaders prioritize the needs and satisfaction of their clients above all else. They go above and beyond to ensure that every traveler has a memorable and enjoyable experience, addressing any concerns or issues promptly and effectively.”
