SINGAPORE: Malaysian police are investigating two policemen after two Singapore-registered automobile drivers claimed they were extorted at the Johor Bahru Sultan Iskandar checkpoint on Tuesday (March 12).
In a media release on Thursday, the head of Johor Bahru police said the two policemen were being probed after two Facebook users posted about the event.
In a post on the Facebook page MY SG Road Trip – Your Malaysia Road Trip Guide, member Irene Teo stated that she was crossing from Johor Bahru to Singapore when a Malaysian police officer directed her into a lane used by trucks.
Ms Teo said she followed another Singapore-registered vehicle “to a deserted side road beside the customs (checkpoint)” where just two other cars were visible. A police officer approached her and asked why she had utilized the lane allocated for lorries returning to Singapore before requesting the driver’s license and passports of the car passengers.
