SINGAPORE: Former Transport Minister S Iswaran was granted permission on Monday (March 4) to remain outside Singapore for an additional 16 days after falling ill in Australia, following an application by his attorneys on the final day of the window for which he was initially approved.
Iswaran, who faces various allegations, including two counts of corruption, was granted permission last month to leave Singapore for Australia between February 16 and March 4 to assist his son in settling into university.
At an urgent mention at the State Courts today, the defence filed a motion to extend Mr Iswaran’s permission to leave jurisdiction by 16 days, until March 19, 2024, because he became ill while in Australia,” an Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) spokesperson said in response to media inquiries.
The prosecution did not object to the application, provided the expanded bail conditions were met.
The message did not go into detail on Iswaran’s sickness. CNA has contacted his lawyers about this. Davinder Singh, Senior Counsel, leads the team that represents Iswaran.
