As the CTO of Abundent, Tarun Sukhani has been instrumental in elevating and shaping the organization’s current standing. In this insightful interview, Tarun speaks about his advent in this field, the position of his company in the Singapore region, offering unique services, and how he focuses on empathy to foster teamwork, while offering invaluable suggestions for aspiring entrepreneurs.
Early Life And Education
We started the interview by asking, “Can you please provide us with some information about yourself, including your early life and education?”
Tarun shared, “I was born in Jaipur, India but was raised in the USA at the age of 5, specifically in Chicago, IL. I attended the University of Chicago as a Biochemistry major and graduated with a BS in Biology. I was originally planning to enter medical school but switched to Engineering and Computer Science and decided to pursue further studies at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. After graduating with a BS in Math & Computer Science, I focused my attention on employment as a Systems Analyst and Developer while pursuing further degrees in Business Administration.
I managed to do dual Master’s degrees (MBA and MIS) and then relocated to Malaysia after marriage. Later, I completed a DBA and dabbled in entrepreneurship. I have since started and exited from 3 companies before starting Abundent, where I am the Managing Director. I am also a remote consultant and am involved in another startup, this time focusing on Lawtech or Legaltech in the US market. The project sponsor and I are very hopeful that this venture will succeed in the US market.”
Glimpse Of Abundent’s Presence
We were curious to learn about the position of Tarun Sukhani’s organization in the Singapore region. So, we asked, “Could you tell us about your company and its presence in the Singapore region?”
He responds, “Abundent is an Edtech and Digital Transformation Services company based in Malaysia with a satellite presence in the USA, Indonesia, and Singapore. We are planning to expand our presence to Vietnam next. In Singapore, we are affiliated with NTUC and SNEF for which we will be providing content development and later training services.
We hope to grow our presence and brand in Singapore further in the years to come. Our Digital Transformation division focuses on consulting and we have a patent-pending Digital Audit that we conduct for companies to assess their Digital Transformation Maturity Index (DTMI), an index that we devised to measure how far a company has progressed on the DDAP framework (Digitization, Digitalization, Automation, and Prediction). The DDAP framework is another creation of ours. Abundent also has a platform TMS (Training Management System) that we use to manage our e-commerce live training site. This platform will be sold as a SaaS to customers soon.”
Current Year For The Brand
To learn more about the performance of Tarun Sukhani’s company in the recent year, we asked, “How has the year been for your company in terms of overall performance and achievements?”
He replied, “So far it has been promising. We are hoping to expand our brand presence further and have been gaining traction in search engine results where we often rank in the top 3 for AI/ML/DL related training such as LLM, RAG, and OpenAI training.”
Setting Abundent Apart
To maintain a competitive edge, it is crucial to offer unique experiences and services in the market. So, we inquired Tarun Sukhani, “In the current competitive market, what does your business offer that sets it apart from others?”
Tarun shared, “Unlike other marketing shell training providers, we are developer-founded, led, and focused. We focus on the hard skills that developers require to succeed in the modern job market. We are also very employment-centric and focus our attention on helping our students to get employed. We focus on problem-solving and critical thinking skills as applied to real-world projects.”
Fostering Effective Teamwork
We further asked, “What measures do you believe employees and organizations can take to build effective teamwork and foster unity within the workplace?”
He continued, “I focus on the power of empathy in business and have managed to reduce churn and increase productivity at several companies using my patent-pending framework for measuring fairness and compassion.”
Words Of Wisdom For Beginners
Addressing beginners, we inquired to conclude the interview, “Do you have any advice or tips for startups looking to follow a similar pathway to your company’s success?”
Tarun Sukhani concluded, “Make sure you have enough runway to survive for at least a year. Many startups fail because they simply just run out of money. Also, make sure to focus on user research and market intelligence upfront and devise personas that can be validated in the market. Then go for early traction with simple solutions first to confirm your market intelligence is correct. Early traction will allow you to get funding if needed.”
