SINGAPORE: What makes up a S$2 cup of freshly squeezed orange juice? According to Bruce Zhang, CEO and founder of iJooz, there is a lot more than meets the eye. The simple answer is four oranges, as prominently displayed on each iJooz vending machine. These machines have large glass panels that allow curious clients to see the process in action.
But those few seconds of juicing are only the tip of the iceberg in a well planned supply chain. Supplying tens of thousands of orange juice cups per day in Singapore, while also guaranteeing that each cup is fresh and pleasant, necessitates precision, invention, and years of refinement.
Before starting iJooz, Mr Zhang spent 12 years in the semiconductor business, honing his skills in robotics and data analysis. This background motivated his idea to address the manpower and cost difficulties that retail businesses frequently encounter. Traditional juice stands suffer expensive procurement, labour, and rental costs.
There is a desire for fresh juice, but it is tough to find and expensive,” the 42-year-old explained. I considered how we might overcome it to ensure that the orange juice we offered was easily accessible, convenient, and affordable,” he told CNA at the iJooz office in the Yishun industrial district.
