BEIJING: A day after German prosecutors accused three individuals with providing technological intelligence to China, Beijing issued a warning to Germany on Friday, January 10, to refrain from “hyping up” spying threats.
Three German citizens, known only as Herwig F, Ina F, and Thomas R, were charged by the federal prosecutor’s office on Thursday with getting “information on innovative technologies that could be used for military purposes.
“They repeatedly collected information that could in particular be useful for expanding China’s naval combat power” between February 2017 and April 2024, according to a statement from the prosecution.
Beijing stated that it hoped that “Germany will stop hyping up so-called espionage risks from China and not set up obstacles to the healthy and stable development of China-Germany relations”.
Guo Jiakun, the spokesperson for the foreign ministry, told a regular press conference that China has always adhered to building China-Germany relations based on the principles of mutual respect, non-interference in each other’s affairs, and… following rules and regulations.
