SINGAPORE: On Saturday evening, November 9, while attending mass at St. Joseph’s Church, Mr. John D’Cruz heard a disturbance a few meters away. As an altar server on duty, the 27-year-old remarked, “I heard someone scream … there was a thud, and Father Christopher just fell.
At first, he believed that the church’s parish priest, Father Christopher Lee, had simply collapsed. He quickly discovered, however, that he had been stabbed.
He spoke to the priest’s garment, saying, “He was on the floor, people were helping him and holding him, and there was a lot of blood coming out (from his facial area) and his entire chasuble was bloody.”
Hundreds of parishioners attended the morning service as usual, and Mr. D’Cruz seemed unfazed by what he had done and returned to the church on Sunday to continue ministering.
He told CNA on Sunday, “I think everything is normal, and people are still coming back.” “I believe the police have already conducted enough checks. It should be alright, in my opinion. Mr. D’Cruz stated that the church has also been increasing security checks and being more watchful throughout the service.
