The Beginning
Curious to learn about Christophe Mermaz and his early life, we asked, “Can you please provide us with some information about yourself, including your early life and education?”
He responded, “I have a background in Mechanical Engineering, having graduated from a Swiss university. In addition to my engineering degree, I have also completed an MBA from Em Lyon in France and Cranfield Business School in the UK. For the past 24 years, I have been working in various industrial businesses, where I have held positions of significant responsibility. This includes overseeing operations, and sales, and managing the profit and loss of these businesses.
I have gained experience in multiple industries, such as electronics, railway, packaging, special machinery, eyewear, and pharmaceuticals. I have also had the opportunity to work in different countries, including the UK, France, Italy, China, and Vietnam.”
He added, “Throughout my career, I have worked in diverse environments, ranging from small and family-owned businesses like Nicomatic and Delachaux to large corporations like Amcor. This extensive experience has provided me with a comprehensive understanding of industrial business management and has shaped my own philosophy and management style.
One area where I have applied my knowledge is in the construction of pharmaceutical facilities using an industrial approach, specifically modular construction. This approach combines efficiency and flexibility, allowing for the quick and cost-effective construction of pharmaceutical facilities.”
More About C-CUBE
To understand more about the expansion of Christophe Mermaz’s business in the Singapore region, we asked, “Could you tell us about your company and its presence in the Singapore region?”
He shared enthusiastically, “C-CUBE was established in January 2019 in Hanoi, Vietnam. Initially, there were two partners involved in the company’s formation. The first partner, Fabrice Dumont Dayot, is the CEO of SP Groups, a pharmaceutical engineering company in Switzerland. With 16 years of experience in the pharmaceutical engineering field, he brought valuable knowledge to C-CUBE. The second partner is myself, leveraging my expertise in the industrial sector and business-to-business (B2B) development.
In 2022, we decided to establish our headquarters in Singapore. This move was aimed at facilitating our first round of funding and gaining a broader presence for C-CUBE in Asia. Singapore is a strategic location as many key decision-makers for our market in Asia are based there.
Currently, we operate in Vietnam, a commercial office in Switzerland, and our headquarters in Singapore. This setup allows us to effectively carry out our business activities and cater to our clients in different regions.”
Yearly Achievements
Eager to learn about the progress of Christophe Mermaz’s company in the recent year, we asked, “How has the year been for your company in terms of overall performance and achievements?”
Christophe responded, “After dedicating three years to developing our modular concept and laying the foundations of C-CUBE, we have reached a significant milestone. We successfully secured funding from Saint-Gobain group, which invested in Singapore. Additionally, we won our first major project, which involved the installation of a biotech facility in Europe. This facility is scheduled to be completed by June 2024.
At present, we are actively working on new modular projects in both Europe and Asia. The year 2024 will be a crucial period for C-CUBE as we continue to expand and strengthen our operations and global commercial reach. This milestone will propel us to new heights and solidify our position in the industry.”
Setting C-CUBE Apart
We were curious to learn how Christophe Mermaz ensures that his company has a unique approach to the competition. So, we inquired, “In the current competitive market, what does your business offer that sets it apart from others?”
He shared, “C-CUBE offers a highly efficient and cost-effective solution for constructing small-scale biotech and pharma facilities. With our industrial approach, we provide the fastest way to build facilities under 1,000 m2. Our concept is a pre-engineered solution, which can be installed inside a building or directly outside. Additionally, our production in Vietnam and reduced engineering costs make us the most competitive option compared to traditional stick-build approaches.”
Fostering Unity And Teamwork
To learn Christophe Mermaz’s insights on promoting collaboration and teamwork, we questioned, “What measures do you believe employees and organizations can take to build effective teamwork and foster unity within the workplace?”
Christophe emphasized the importance of a positive workspace, and replied, “At C-CUBE, our culture is built upon five core values: people development, integrity, customer focus, social responsibility, and value-driven mindset. When you join our team, we expect you to align with these values while bringing your unique personality. This approach shapes the way we work and behave, fostering a dynamic and healthy work environment.
We prioritize these values throughout the organization, from the recruitment process to the performance assessment of our management team. While C-CUBE may not be suitable for everyone, individuals who respect and embody our values have the potential to thrive, expand their horizons, and take on greater responsibilities within the company.”
Advice For Startups
Lastly, addressing the aspiring beginners, we questioned, “Do you have any advice or tips for startups looking to follow a similar pathway to your company’s success?”
Christophe concluded, “Achieving success as a startup depends on your ability to be resilient and flexible in the early stages.
