SINGAPORE: Jason Teh of Singapore won the first major singles title of his career on Sunday, February 2, and there was no doubting him. In a thrilling men’s singles final of the Thailand Masters held in Bangkok’s Nimibutr Stadium, Teh defeated Wang Zheng Xing of China 21-18, 15-21, 21-19.
Winning my first title makes me very delighted. Honestly, I was in a hurry and made unintentional mistakes since I was thinking about winning the title already at 18–18 in the third game. But fortunately, I was able to regroup and go back on track,” Teh remarked, joyfully throwing his racket to the ground and ripping off his shirt after winning. He has met world number 39 Wang three times in his career. Two of their meetings have now been won by Teh.
I was basically prepared for a lengthy and difficult battle leading up to the finals since I know Wang is difficult to defeat. My next objectives are to maintain a high level of training intensity and gradually raise my rating.
Kim Ji-hyun, Singapore’s head coach of singles, stated that the victory would be a “huge confidence booster” ahead of Teh’s All England debut the following month. Of course, Jason knows that this is just an initial step to ultimately getting on the winning team at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics,” she added.
