SEOUL: On Friday, January 3, authorities escaped a mass of demonstrators outside and entered the property of impeached South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol to carry out an unusual arrest warrant. However, they were met by presidential security officers inside.
The Presidential Security Service (PSS), which has previously prevented investigators with a search warrant from entering Yoon’s office and official house, was not expected to attempt to prevent his detention.
According to AFP reporters, senior prosecutor Lee Dae-hwan and other Corruption Investigation Office (CIO) investigators were allowed entry through strong security barriers into the house to carry out their warrant to arrest Yoon.
However, a military force barred them once inside, according to the Yonhap news agency. Later, they went beyond that unit to confront security personnel inside the house.
Shortly after 7 a.m. (6 a.m. Singapore time), representatives from the CIO, which is in charge of a collaborative team of investigators that consists of police and prosecutors, reached the gates of Yoon’s property.
