SINGAPORE: As the war in Gaza reaches a sombre turning point, the beleaguered region is looming with images of death, destruction, and hopelessness.
Charity organisations are continuing to step up relief efforts for the little seaside enclave in Singapore, which is almost 8,000 km away. According to observers, the sheer and ongoing scope of the humanitarian disaster keeps people’s thoughts heavy even while they are physically apart.
“Citizens continue to be killed.” Dr. Mustafa Izzuddin, a senior foreign affairs analyst with the consulting firm Solaris Strategies Singapore, stated, “We actually see an escalation of the conflict that now includes Lebanon.” It could potentially result in a far more significant conflict than what we have been witnessing since October 7th of last year.
The current battle in Gaza began a year ago on Monday, October 7, when the Palestinian militant group Hamas launched a cross-border attack on Israel.
The majority of Gaza’s 2.3 million residents have been displaced due to a humanitarian crisis that has resulted in widespread starvation, and more than 41,000 people have been killed there.
