SINGAPORE: The Football Federation of Cambodia said that it has opened an investigation “to clear any suspicions” three days after losing to Singapore in the ASEAN tournament.
This was said “in light of the incident that occurred and appears to be unusual for the previous matches” in a Facebook post on Saturday, December 14. There is nothing to be concerned about regarding the integrity of all the officials and players who are truthful and impartial,” it stated. This came after authorities of the Cambodian national team met with Sao Sokha, the association president.
The match in question and the people being investigated were not made clear by the Cambodian football organization. The Khmer Times claims that the investigation was started in response to fan theories about potential match-fixing.
These remarks were made three days following the team’s 1-2 defeat to Singapore earlier in the tournament, in which the Lions scored goals thanks to two errors made by the Cambodian goalie. After a back pass, Dara Vireak made a mistake in the ninth minute, sending the ball to Singapore’s Faris Ramli, who tucked it in.
