SINGAPORE: Circle Line services were interrupted for the second time in as many days on Wednesday, September 18, due to a fire that started at a train depot.
At approximately 8 p.m. on Wednesday, the transport operator SMRT posted on Facebook that a fire had started in one of the Kim Chuan Depot’s power system cubicles. The Circle Line’s power supply was interrupted as a result of a power trip.
Some trains stalled as a result, and the lighting inside the trains was impacted, according to SMRT. It also stated that on-site engineers put out the fire. We also activated the Singapore Civil Defence Force, and by 8.10 p.m., the power was back on.” Around 8:15 p.m., all trains started moving again, and regular services started up again,” SMRT said, expressing regret for the inconvenience this had caused to travellers.
The 15-minute delay on Wednesday followed a nearly two-hour power outage on Tuesday at 5:50 p.m., which disrupted numerous commuters’ travel during peak hours.
During the power outage, eleven trains stopped in the Circle Line tunnels for fifteen minutes, preventing passengers from having air conditioning even though the onboard battery could only provide partial lighting and ventilation.
