Manila: The U.S. embassy acknowledged without providing any other information that the U.S. military contracted a small plane that crashed in the southern Philippines on Thursday, February 6, killing at least four individuals on board.
In a statement, the Philippine military stated that because the incident was secret and an investigation was still underway, it was unable to provide information regarding the crash on Mindanao island.
The United States military has assisted in providing intelligence to forces fighting militants associated with the Islamic State group that is still active on Mindanao, and a small number of American troops are deployed there on short-term rotational assignments. Questions were not immediately answered by US Indo-Pacific Command in Hawaii.
Officers have not yet identified the reason of the fixed-wing aircraft crash on a farm close to the municipality of Ampatuan, regional police spokeswoman Jopy Ventura said AFP. He added that police and military had been sent to the scene to guard against possible evidence tampering and that none of the four known victims had been identified as of yet.
