HONG KONG: As tropical storm Toraji passed within 150 kilometers south of the financial center, authorities issued the third-highest typhoon warning overnight, causing schools and numerous businesses to close on Thursday, November 14. According to the city’s observatory, Toraji is predicted to wane and depart Hong Kong as the daytime winds progressively moderate.
According to the observatory, many companies can operate for the remainder of the day when the strong wind alert is decreased to signal 3 from 8 by 10.20am. In the city’s heart, roads were quiet and there seemed to be little damage.
For the first time during a typhoon, the city’s stock exchange was open for business Thursday morning, while the Airport Authority said that flights and operations were proceeding as usual. When a Typhoon 8 signal is issued, people are usually urged to stay indoors, and transportation is drastically curtailed.
Toraji, which translates to “beautiful flower that blooms unnoticed,” typically occurs in Korea’s deep mountains. This month, four storms have simultaneously formed in the South China Sea and the western North Pacific.
