Washington: Although he did not specify the subjects of their chat, US President Donald Trump claimed to have spoken with Chinese President Xi Jinping since assuming office on January 20.
When asked if he has spoken to the Chinese leader since the US president’s inauguration, Trump replied, “Yeah, I have talked to him and I have talked to his people, too.” Our personal relationship is excellent,” Trump continued. The president did not specify the precise time of the call or the topics of discussion.
In an attempt to prevent a fresh trade war between the two biggest economies in the world, Trump stated last week that he was not in a rush to meet with Xi. A possible reduction or postponement of trade duties is thought to depend on a discussion between Xi and Trump.
A request for comment on Trump’s interview with Fox News was not immediately answered by the Chinese foreign ministry or the White House. Just before Trump took office in January, he and Xi had a conversation about topics like trade, Taiwan, and TikTok.
