SINGAPORE: From Monday, January 6, to Tuesday, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong will travel to Putrajaya for the 11th Malaysia-Singapore Leaders’ Retreat, at which time the two countries will sign several bilateral agreements. Anwar Ibrahim, his counterpart, will host him, Singapore’s Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) announced Sunday, January 5.
According to the PMO, the yearly retreat provides a forum for both leaders to establish the general course of bilateral cooperation and find fresh approaches to boosting connectivity in order to provide real advantages to Malaysians and Singaporeans. Additionally, the PMO stated that both parties will keep up their positive efforts to manage unresolved bilateral issues, “taking into account their abiding interdependencies and shared commitment to forward-looking ties.
Mr. Wong stated that Singapore and Malaysia have a connection “unlike any other,” with a rich history and profound interdependency, in an interview with the Malay-language publication Utusan Malaysia that was published on Sunday. For instance, he said, both nations relied on one another when COVID-19 hit and cooperated to combat the pandemic.
We are better off when our neighbors are stable, successful, and prosperous,” Mr. Wong responded when asked how Singapore has been impacted by Malaysia’s frequent changes in government. We can work together, support one another, and make long-term plans.
