Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong stated on Monday, November 25, that Singapore is still optimistic about China’s future, warning that it would be “short-sighted” and “unwise” to ignore the second-largest economy in the world, even as Beijing faces both domestic and international difficulties.
The veteran politician in Singapore for a six-day official visit stated that Singapore believes a growing and prosperous China can and should play a key positive role internationally.
Mr. Lee, who was giving the keynote address at a roundtable in Suzhou to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the China-Singapore Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP), stated that “(China can contribute) to the prosperity and well-being of other countries, and a stable international order where all countries big and small co-exist peacefully together.”
Therefore, we wish China luck as it modernises its economy, joins the global economy, and strengthens its win-win ties with other major nations and its neighbours.
He also met with He Lifeng, the vice premier of China. They reaffirmed their commitment to transforming the SIP into a world-class industrial zone, emphasising high-quality development, acknowledging the tremendous progress the project has made since its founding.
