SEOUL: Amid international outcry over its forces stationed to support Russia in Ukraine, North Korea demonstrated its military might on Friday, November 1, by testing a massive new solid-fuel intercontinental ballistic missile known as Hwasong-19, according to official media.
According to the North and the forces of South Korea and Japan, which followed the missile’s journey far into space before it landed in the ocean between Japan and Russia, the launch on Thursday soared higher than any previous North Korean missile.
The Hwasong-19, like North Korea’s other recent ICBMs, showed the range to hit almost any location in the United States, however concerns still surround the country’s capacity to steer such a missile and shield a nuclear payload as it re-enters the atmosphere.
While presiding over the launch, Kim Jong Un declared, “The new-type ICBM proved before the world that the hegemonic position we have secured in the development and manufacture of nuclear delivery,” according to KCNA.
Days before the crucial US presidential election next week, Washington and its allies in South Korea, Japan, and Europe, along with the UN Secretary-General, swiftly condemned Thursday’s missile launch.
