SINGAPORE: On Tuesday, August 27, at Woodlands Checkpoint, a 33-year-old woman was taken into custody for attempting to steal an Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officer’s handgun.
In a news release on Wednesday, the Singapore Police Force stated that at approximately 3:40 PM on Tuesday, they received a call for assistance at the checkpoint. According to preliminary investigations, the woman was refused entry into Malaysia before arriving at Woodlands Checkpoint.
She tried to grab an ICA officer’s revolver during the interview and was directed to the ICA duty office for follow-up checks. The police added that she was taken into custody right away.
On Thursday, the woman will face charges related to her attempted illegal possession of firearms. She could serve a five- to ten-year prison sentence if found guilty. At least six canings are also imposed for the offence. But being a woman, she cannot be caned.
