BANGKOK: In three hospitals in Bangkok, nearly 60 patients, five Singaporeans Nare still undergoing medical care, according to a statement released on Wednesday, May 22, by Samitivej Srinakarin Hospital.
Two hospitals are treating twenty patients in intensive care units (ICUs), and the remaining thirty-eight patients are receiving in-patient care. Two of the three hospitals’ five Singaporeans are in the ICU.
While traveling from London to Singapore, a Singapore Airlines (SIA) flight experienced severe turbulence, resulting in injuries to the patients. The aircraft was declared medically emergency and landed in Bangkok.
Three hospitals have been assigned to the 58 patients: Samitivej Srinakarin Hospital has 41 patients, Samitivej Sukhumvit Hospital has 15, and Bangkok Hospital has two patients.
Twenty-seven patients had been released from the hospital by Wednesday at 1 p.m. According to Singapore Airlines, one crew member will return on Thursday, and five passengers from SQ321 will return on Wednesday.
According to SIA, six crew members and 74 passengers, including the relatives of those undergoing medical treatment, are reportedly still in Bangkok.
Suvarnabhumi Airport is approximately a 20-minute drive from Samitivej Srinakarin Hospital. In Thailand, Samitivej is a private healthcare organisation that operates seven hospitals. The first hospital was established in 1979.
According to its website, Samitivej Srinakarin has 400 beds and provides a range of medical services for Thai and foreign patients.
