SINGAPORE: During recent joint enforcement operations by the Traffic Police and the Land Transport Authority (LTA), fines were imposed on 32 cyclists for breaking the group size rule.
In addition to conducting education outreach to increase public awareness of cycling rules and guidelines, Traffic Police and LTA officers carried out enforcement operations, according to a joint media release issued by the authorities on Tuesday, August 13.
The maximum number of cyclists seen on Singapore’s roads in a group is five if they are riding in single file, or ten if they are riding two abreast.
On roads with two lanes or more, bicyclists can ride two abreast.
During the designated hours, they must ride in bus lanes and on single-lane roads in single file.
If found violating the group size regulation, cyclists may be fined S$150 (US$113). To improve road safety, a higher composition fine amount was raised with effect from January 1, 2022, and it applies to those who violate other current cycling regulations as well,” the authorities stated.
